I need to schedule a day in the week that I post as one week morphs into the next and then it continues with nothing written.
I am not that productive in my sewing room but considering my stash I should be pumping out the projects. Instead I have been working more hours (in my paid job as a midwife), working outside in the garden and painting the fences, and holidaying to Brisbane where I have family.
So what do I have to show-
Then I moved onto a smaller project using a charm pack I had had for a few years and wanted to make a design with HST's.
I decided to quilt it with organic wavy lines and still liked it-until I added the binding.!! I decided to try machine attaching the binding (for the first time) and it seemed to make the quilt no longer sit flat and I didn't like the stitching not being perfect on the back Anyone do machine binding that can give me tips that will help me!!
Last week we had the Festival of Quilts Show in Auckland. This is the big show of the year and this year I met up with a blogging friend who I had never met in person and we had a great day, even though our tastes were different. New Zealand bloggers-maybe we should plan a bloggers get together next year like our Australian friends do at the quilt fairs????

Apologies to the quilt makers that I have not given credit to but I didn't get a photo of the credits. Congratulations to all the ribbon winners. Lots of inspiration for sure and boy was it crowded. I'm sure everyone had a great time at the show.

Hi Marlene, nice to hear from you. I think sometimes life just runs away with us and we dont get things done. I have become an intermitent bloggers also although I always find a but of time for reading blogs , lol.

Yaaaa a bloody post! I am thrilled to see the Pinwheel quilt finished. Machine Binding. Been there, done that, won't be doing it ever again. You simply do NOT get the lovely finish hand stitching gives.

It was lovely to spend those hours with you at the show too... and yes, we have different tastes, but heck, who cares? We got on just fine.
I like the idea of a blogger meet. I did it once years ago and it was a really neat event.
Your projects look great! Work tends to get in the way of sewing I find.
ReplyDeleteNeat quilting on that pinwheel!! Sounds like you're enjoying your spring season. Kinda cold here for gardening and painting outside. :) That binding - I don't do them by machine very often (well, I apply binding to the quilt to start with by machine always, but then I most-always turn and hand-stitch it). I had problems with the waviness happening on those that I machine stitched, even though I used the walking foot. I do the binding on the bias, and I was turning and sewing as I went. The last time I did one by machine, I took the time to turn and pin the entire binding around the quilt edge before I started stitching. It didn't wave! I don't know if that's what resolved the problem, as it's only been one trial so far. Did you turn-and-sew as you went along? Or did you pin the binding around first?

ReplyDeleteI love your Scattered pinwheels, I love the way its not a uniform pattern. I've done what you've done where I love everything about a quilt except the machine binding, I still have to unpick it and sew it on properly. Thanks for sharing some quilts from the quilt show. What a great selection!
